The role of Patch Management Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the systems (hardware and software) are running the latest certified patches available from the identified authenticated sources.  The position will develop, execute, and maintain the Patch Management program being established by the client.  Working with the asset management group, the position will identify and prioritize system updates which protect systems from known vulnerabilities and threats to the company operations.  Continuous input of the patch program development is a critical part of the role requirements. This position will report to the Sr. Manager, Global Infrastructure Services.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Evaluates vendor patches for inclusion in own operating environment on a continuous basis
  • Testing and user acceptance of the patches to be deployed are validated
  • Identification and prioritization of patches, environments being updated, and scheduled outage/Change management
  • Utilize SCCM to perform patch pushes by strategic groups
  • Perform operational evaluations ensuring audit control compliance remain with regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices.
  • Direct the analysis of documentation and technical specifications for any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality and the support model expected post deployment.
  • Assist in develop of change control processes, practices, and guidelines for new and existing technologies as it relates to service and system support.
  • Assist in developing incident vs/and change management workflow, process, and procedures when deploying patches to the production environment
  • Produce audit artifacts as a control performer which demonstrates the patch program results and compliance with the stated policies


Operational Management

  • Coordinates improvement with service owners to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Works with application and system owners to define and report key performance indicators (KPIs), maintenance windows, and patch vulnerability remediation.
  • Coordinates with process/reporting managers to develop and report metrics for improvement and accomplishments.
  • Oversees gathering of baseline data so it can be assessed against captured data for improvement.
  • Evaluates monitoring reports to identify any baseline changes to system performance or operations.
  • Verifies monitoring tools are in place to gather data and correlates to reporting statistics using Rapid 7 Nexpose.
  • Liaises with various service managers in the organization to facilitate implementation of new or improved vulnerability remediation processes.
  • Develop reporting of defects and fixes in product development, software application development, information systems, and operations systems.
  • Coordinate service model integration of new software/systems to ensure incorporation into company support systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.


Communications

  • Regularly reports on progress of vulnerability remediation progress to management.
  • A single source of responsibility for communications regarding gaps and improvements in patch management.
  • Communicates patching improvement goals and vision to service managers/owners.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education & Certification

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of Computer science or IT Management and/or 4 years equivalent work experience. 

Certification Requirements

  • Practitioner or Service Manager Level ITIL Certification preferred.
  • SCCM, Rapid 7 product certifications or operational experience a plus.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong background in IT Services with an emphasis on Patch Management.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices for IT service management.
  • Some experience in project management environment is an asset.
  • Operational knowledge of SCCM and Rapid 7 operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of business processes and process development including incident and change management
  • Knowledge of system testing metrics, best practices and methodologies.
  • Operational knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts.
  • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with statistical reporting and analysis for metric reporting.
  • Excellent PC skills and technically fluent IT operations
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures.
